Basic Info

Yacht Name: Charity
Builder: Island Packet
Model: 31 Centerboard
Year: 1986
Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
Designer: Bob Johnson
Hull Material: Fiberglass

CHARITY is one of the few IP 31’s built with the desirable centerboard option enabling her to gunkhole into shallow anchorages yet maintain her stiff sailing qualities offshore.

The Island Packet 31 is unquestionably one of the largest 31-footers you’ll find. With a beamy 11’ 6” hull, she carries a much larger interior volume than any comparable boat.  Creature comfort and sailing is pleasurable with this pocket cruiser.  With the versatile centerboard option with a mere 3’ draft, CHARITY can gunkhole into anchorages unreachable by most yet maintain her stiff performance and exceptional abilities offshore with the board down and drawing 7'.  With 262 hulls built, the IP31 remains one of Bob Johnson's most popular designs, and for good reason. She derives her styling from her catboat heritage and traditional lines. With her short overhangs, the bow is almost plumb, and the stern is vertical making every inch of her waterline count.

CHARITY has been lovingly maintained since new and is in far superior condition compared to most. Her attentive owner has made numerous improvements over the years to include:

  • New reverse cycle A/C unit installed in 2015
  • New hull, deck, and non-skid paint in 2016
  • New diesel fuel tank
  • Updated Raymarine and Garmin electronics
  • New AGM-200 sealed maintenance free batteries (3) installed in June 2016
  • New ProMariner 30 amp battery charger installed in 2016
  • New Lewmar deck hatches installed in 2017
  • Updated plumbing, holding tank, and Raritan head installed in 2009

And much more!

If you’re looking for a quality built, lovingly maintained pocket cruiser, she MUST be on your short list!

CHARITY offers more interior volume and comfortable living space than any other 31-footer.

Forward, is a sizeable v-berth with sleeping accommodations for two, outboard shelving and a tall hanging locker to port. The head is forward to starboard and is accessible both from the forward cabin and main salon. The main salon has a long 6’ 4” settee to port and L-shaped seating area to starboard which can convert to a double berth. A notable feature is the stowable dinette table which can be tucked up and out of the way against the main bulkhead, adding a welcomed amount of space when not in use. Cabinetry and shelving are abundant with added storage under and behind the settees. To port of the companionway, the U-shaped galley is surprisingly large. To starboard is the nav desk which also doubles as a divider for the double quarter berth.
