Hi, I'm Bernie Jakits. After 20 years of owning and running a successful brokerage in Annapolis, my partner Kate Christensen and I have merged our company with David Walters Yachts. We are happy and excited to be a part of something bigger and continue to live our passion that started long ago. When I was an engineer in the aerospace industry I had lots of time to read every sailboat review and follow every development in the industry. I dreamed of one day owning a distinctly different brokerage firm and it all came true when in 1997 I started RogueWave Yacht Sales It came out of a passion for the sea and love for the beautiful vessels that sail on her. My vision was to create a new kind of brokerage dedicated to honesty and integrity and desire to help people be successful and achieve their bluewater sailing vision. Kate Christensen joined me in 2001 to share that vision and bring her talents and expertise in business and marketing as well as her passion for sailing her Bristol Channel Cutter. Over 20 years, we built an incredible brokerage and consulting firm specializing in ocean going vessels and live aboard cruising sailboats. We have advised and guided over 800 Clients worldwide from as far away as Hong Kong, Brazil, Australia, Europe and everywhere between, so that they too can also achieve their dream of owning and cruising with a capable bluewater vessel to find and reach their own horizons. We have the experience and expertise required to really help people.
For over 45 years, I have sailed, delivered and worked on hundreds of different types of vessels. Representing many clients, I have sailed in the North Sea to Med, across the Atlantic, and in the South China Sea and the, Pacific, the Caribbean Islands and also both Coasts of the USA. Having owned and maintained over 3 million dollars worth of sailing vessels, I have vast experience with incredible sailing vessels from the Hallberg Rassy 53 or a Valiant 40 & 42, a Norseman 447, a PSC34, and a BCC28. I've sailed to many foreign ports and also lived aboard while raising a family. Kate and I have had the opportunity to have incredible sailing adventures aboard our boats from the amazing Bristol Channel Cutter to the Hallberg Rassy 53 and finally our Valiant 42 that we built new in 2008 when we were Valiant Dealers in Annapolis. We have sailed far and lived aboard; we have led the Caribbean 1500 to the Bahamas. We have raced to Bermuda. We have delivered boats from the North Sea to the Med and from Guatemala to Annapolis and of course from the Caribbean to Annapolis many times. Through that experience we can help cruising couples make the right decisions. I have decommissioned and shipped many vessels and put them back together again, for myself and also for our clients. I have upgraded each vessel we owned installing every system imaginable, and maintaining every boat properly. I have taught and advised clients so that they themselves will have a pleasant and rewarding experience. Being a fellow boat owner and having personally experienced both sides of being a buyer and a seller, I understand your concerns.
With these many years of experience I have come to know and appreciate what a truly high caliber blue water sailing yachts is and should be. As a licensed & bonded professional yacht broker, please give me the pleasure of helping you define your requirements and help choose your next passage making/offshore capable sailing or power yacht. My experience is gained from having had a 100 Ton USCG Master License, being a Captain on several ocean races, having been a Marine Surveyor, and of course my background as an MSME Mechanical Engineer. And most important of all, I have sailed over 100,000 offshore miles, on my own boats and delivering countless boats for client to about everywhere.
Now as the RogueWave Division of David Walters Yachts, Kate and I carry on the RogueWave traditions as Your Choice for Bluewater Boats! |Yacht Name:||Escape Velocity|
|Designer:||Sparkman & Stephens|
This is a terrific vessel and an amazing value. She was built by one of the finest custom builders in the US in Wilmington NC. Bennett Brothers Yachts. Each vessel is custom built to the owners’ specifications and this particular boat is a stand out yacht. Her first owners from Long Island NY commissioned her and spared no expense in her construction. They loved and cruised lightly mostly in Long Island Sound with a couple sailing adventures to Bermuda. When they were done sailing twenty years later, they completely refit the vessel to make her as beautiful as the day they launched her. The even replaced the teak and holly cabin sole and headliners as well as refinishing the Cherry interior. Every system was gone over with a fine toothed comb to make her perfect. The new Stars and Stripes Awlgrip paint job on the topsides made Escape Velocity incredibly beautiful .This is no ordinary 1992 vessel. Her owners donated her to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and eventually she was offered for sale. Her current owners where the lucky recipient and they have carried on to maintain the boat in ship shape condition.
Of course you know that any boat designed by Sparkman and Stevens will sail as beautifully as she looks. This is a performance cruiser with liveaboard comfort. The underbody is very modern with a wing fin keel and a spade rudder. The hand laid fiberglass hull and sandwich deck construction give her a moderate displacement. The sail plan with a Furlboom mainsail system and furling headsails give her the power to move while being easily sailed by a couple. The wing keel provides great stability with shoal draft nice in the Bahamas and other spots on the East Coast. With her 64 foot mast height she is just intercoastal capable at about 64. Mind the wind and tide, but she can do it. We like having a choice sometimes.
Escape Velocity is a luxurious the stateroom center cockpit yacht. There is plenty of space for a couple and guests or a small family. The master stateroom aft has the sought after centerline queen berth and ensuite head and stall shower. The forward cabin is large with a true V-berth and wonderful cabinetry. The salon is spacious and comfortable with a dining table for eight. The cherry interior joinery is elegant and the interior is thoughtfully finished with lovely upholstery and beddings. It is a home! Her owners have enjoyed living aboard and light cruising in the Bahamas in the East Coast for the last four years. They have loved and cared for Escape Velocity. .
Escape Velocity is enroute to Annapolis and once more offered for sale. She is a spectacular value and completely ready for the next owner to step aboard. Escape Velocity is owned by responsible sailors and she is polished and ship shape from top to bottom.

The S&S Bennett 48 was designed and built for the ultimate cruising and liveaboard comfort. She has all the style and substance you will ever find and she was built in the way real boats are built. You will instantly see her quality and loveliness. She is a two stateroom center cockpit vessel with ample space and storage for everything. With two heads and two stall showers she’s exceedingly comfortable when you have guests aboard. The cherry joinery of the highest quality and it was completely refinished in about 2003. The cherry cabinetry outboard is just right and the teak and holly cabin sole is in incredible condition The upholstery in natural tones in complemented with pillows to create a homey and comfortable environment. There are “delivery” slip covers for all the cushions to keep them nice and fresh.
The large, sit down forward-facing, nav station has a beautiful comfy seat with wrap around instrumentation. The passage to the aft cabin has incredible storage outboard in lockers with both hanging and shelving. Of course the engine room access is fantastic and functional.
The owner's stateroom aft gives you that private aft stateroom with the highly desirable centerline queen berth with custom bedding. There are ample hanging lockers, drawers and cabinets. The ensuite head is large with a separate stall shower. The cabin is light and spacious with plenty of ventilation.
The guest stateroom is up forward, with spacious true V-berth with an insert to make a full double. There is ample stowage in lockers, shelves, and drawers. Your guests will not want to leave with their private space and forward head and stall shower. The guest head forward of the bulkhead to port has access from the main salon as well as from the forward cabin. It has a features vanity with a sink and shower faucet and the toilet.
The boat is delightfully romantic with a light and bright feeling. With the totally workable galley and a spacious salon with nice big dining table she is great for entertaining or showing the grand kids the ropes. The cherry interior is warm feeling with plenty of light from the windows and ports. The joinery is excellent with many nuances of the period that you will never find on a Clorox bottle boat. This is a lovely sailing vessel that looks like a real boat. Cabinets have l louvered doors for ventilation. The teak and holly sole is in good condition. There is great ventilation with fans, dorades, and opening ports and hatches. The upholstery is pleasing and she has a lovely ambiance and every creature comfort.
