Dave Powers

Dave joined the David Walters Yachts crew in January 2019, when we open the California office.  Before joining DWY, he worked for 5 years at a large nationwide brokerage focusing on Hylas yachts.

Dave started sailing in the 70s on an 18-foot Sol Cat beach catamaran, but it wasn't until the 90’s when he when he really got the sailing “bug” and started racing around the buoys and on extended ocean races.  He owned a Catalina 36 in the 1990’s; and in 2000 started racing on his Martin 242 and later his Farr 30 with friends.   He has enjoyed races to Bermuda, deliveries to the Virgin Islands, and many cruising trips to the Mexican Pacific coast, often on a new Hylas yacht with her new owners.  He has been lucky enough to have made two trips through the Panama Canal - both on a Hylas 70, once in each direction!

In Marina del Rey, CA, Dave has had his own rigging, marine electrical & electronics business since 1999, and holds ABYC and NMEA certifications.  In 2002, he started working with Hylas yachts commissioning, servicing, and selling the Hylas line.  He traveled with Hylas commissioning the yachts and enjoying boat shows on both US coasts, as well as in Michigan, Chicago and the Gulf coast.  He especially enjoyed sailing and spending time with the new Hylas owners along the way.

In his off hours, he likes ridding his road bicycle, reading, visiting grandchildren, and spending time with his wife Peggy.
