History

Islander 56 designed by Angelos Lavranos and custom built at Fred Scholtz Marine - Cape Town, South Africa - 1992. First owned by the Commodore of the Royal Natal Yacht Club, Durban, South Africa and cruised (and raced) for 7 years in the Indian Ocean, under the name of s/v Centime.

Crossed the Atlantic from Cape Town to Ft. Lauderdale in 1999 and acquired in 2000 by the Commodore of the Grosse Pointe Club (Michigan) and renamed s/v Encore II.

Initially refit by Global Marine Services in Ft. Lauderdale - 2000-2002
Arista Blue and Cloud White Awlgrip paint, UK Kevlar
Tape Drive sails, interior upholstery, exterior canvas and cockpit cushions, added air conditioning, new electronics, water maker, refinished/varnished interior. Cruised the Bahamas while not undergoing refits.

HISTORY - S/V ENCORE !!:

  • 2002 - 2005: Cruised the Eastern Caribbean
  • 2005 - 2007: Cruised the South Pacific, via the Panama Canal, the Galapagos, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga, Fiji, New Caledonia, Australia (Brisbane to Sydney). Most passages were double handed by the owners.
  • 2008 - Shipped back to Ft. Lauderdale, cruised Bahamas, East Coast of the USA to Maine, and into the Great Lakes via the Erie Canal.
  • 2008 - 2014 - Cruised the Great Lakes. Home port Grosse Pointe, Michigan. (In fresh water for six years)
  • 2015 - 2016 - Returned to Bahamas, with refits in Norfolk, Virginia by Howdy Bailey Yacht Services during each summer
  • 2017 - Present - Bahamas, and Longboat Key Florida North Channel, Lake Huron (Canada)
