A Strategic Partnership Begins

David Walters Yachts’ (DWY) partnership with MJM Yachts (MJM)—representing the MJM brand in the Bahamas and Caribbean—officially kicked off on January 7–8, 2026. The DWY team gathered in Washington, North Carolina, traveling from across the DWY network, including representatives from Fort Lauderdale, Annapolis, and St. Martin, to visit the MJM manufacturing facility.

“This partnership brings together two teams united by craftsmanship, performance, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.”

Welcome to Washington, North Carolina

Washington, North Carolina, is a charming waterfront town located at the headwaters of the Pamlico River, approximately 30 miles west of Greenville, NC. With its scenic waterfront, walkable downtown, and classic Southern homes lining the streets, the town offered a warm and hospitable setting for the visit. On the evening of January 7th, the team enjoyed local dining and nightlife, meeting many welcoming residents throughout the town.

“The town’s waterfront setting and Southern hospitality made the perfect backdrop for the start of this partnership.”

Inside the MJM Manufacturing Facility

The following morning, the team convened at the MJM manufacturing plant, located about a mile upriver. The facility—formerly an aluminum boat manufacturing plant—has a long lineage of vessel construction. Having toured boatbuilding facilities around the world, one thing stood out immediately: the MJM plant is exceptionally clean.

From the CEO to the technicians working on boats under construction, enthusiasm and pride were evident throughout the organization. The MJM team consistently emphasized that they are producing a best-in-class product—and they stand firmly behind that claim.

“From top leadership to the shop floor, pride in the product was evident at every level.”

Precision, Process, and Quality Control

After donning proper PPE, the DWY team entered the first lay-up area to observe cabin and small-component construction. Each MJM team member explained their role and how their work contributes to the finished vessel. Advanced resin-infusion technology ensures each mold receives a precisely measured amount of resin, minimizing waste and maximizing consistency.

Every step of the process is inspected and approved by the Quality team before advancing. The DWY team observed decks and hulls at every stage—from lay-up and infusion to mold release. During the visit, an MJM 38R hull was “popped” from the mold, revealing a stunningly transparent epoxy structure in its raw state.

“Quality isn’t a single step—it’s embedded in every phase of construction.”

From Hull to Finished Yacht

Once molded, hull sections are heat-treated, assembled, and prepped for finishing before moving to the production lines, where propulsion systems and interiors are installed. The team observed MJM 38 models in both the R (Cabin) and X (Adventure) configurations, as well as the MJM 47 R and X models.

The MJM 38 features outboard propulsion, while the MJM 47 offers a Volvo diesel option. Across all lines, the workmanship and attention to detail remained consistent as hulls progressed through installation of power, wiring, plumbing, instrumentation, interiors, paint, and final preparation for sea trials.

“Wherever you stood in the plant, the focus on craftsmanship followed.”

"Is It Eddie Ready?"

Prominently displayed on the back wall of the plant is an eight-foot by eight-foot sign reading, “Is It Eddie Ready?” Eddie, Head of Quality Operations, explained its significance simply: if it’s not “Eddie Ready,” it doesn’t leave the building.

“If it’s not Eddie Ready, it doesn’t go out the door.”

On the Water: The MJM 47R Experience

Following the plant tour, the team returned to the waterfront and boarded an MJM 47R demo vessel equipped with twin Mercury 600-hp outboards. All seven team members inspected the vessel from stem to stern and participated in a sea trial.

Whether running at 50 mph or cruising efficiently at 35 mph for maximum range, the boat performed exceptionally. The quality instilled during construction was unmistakable in the on-water experience.

“The performance on the water matched the precision we saw on the factory floor.”
