Jorge's sailing journey commenced on the shores of Tenerife, Canary Islands, where he began sailing the Cadet class at age five. He quickly established a deep connection with the sea. Transitioning to the Laser class during his teenage years, he earned recognition as the Canary Islands youth champion and made a name for himself on the international sailing stage.
Jorge's passion for offshore sailing ignited during his first solo offshore passage from France to the Canary Islands at 16. As he pursued his academic goals, he continued to race and work as a boat captain and crew member in various international high-performance teams. His comprehensive understanding of boat systems, including building, rigging, sailmaking, and electronics, is a testament to his dedication to the craft.
In 2011, Jorge achieved an extraordinary milestone by completing the Mini Transat single-handed regatta, which demands exceptional skill and determination. His victory in navigating the challenging Atlantic solo in this renowned race solidified his place in sailing history.
Jorge's maritime journey extended to the American continent, where he spent a decade exploring the waters from the Alaskan glaciers to the Panama Canal. He managed the historic Kialoa III as project manager and captain, a testament to his leadership skills. Additionally, he served as a training director at the Oakcliff Sailing Center in Oyster Bay, NY. He managed the service department for esteemed yacht brands like Hylas and Nautor Swan in South Florida.
Today, Jorge Madden embarks on a new chapter as a broker with David Walters Yachts. His extensive experience and his unwavering passion for yachting make him a valuable asset to our team.
