June 2026 Market Update: Here is what has happened and why DWY is leading the charge

It's amazing to think that July 4th is right around the corner, and with it America's 250th Anniversary. Many of you will be taking part in what will be historic Sail250 celebrations this Independence Day. There has seldom been a gathering of so many tall ships from around the world. If you have the opportunity to visit Baltimore or New York City, I encourage you to do so, as it is unlikely that a series of events with a gathering of tall ships at this scale will be repeated anytime soon.

I'm pleased to give you a mid-year update on the market and on David Walters Yachts as we celebrate 44 years of service to the yachting world. 2026 has been a hallmark year for David Walters Yachts. In fact, it has been an incredible year of growth. There are many sectors of the marine industry feeling the same momentum, and some that are not. There has been a general consensus among the boating public that the yachting industry is not in good sorts, with plenty of purported “industry experts” on YouTube saying the same. But in many areas, the reality has been quite the opposite.

Here is what has happened and why DWY is leading the charge.

The boater has changed since COVID. Prior to COVID, many boaters treated yachting as a hobby or pastime. That changed when the world embraced remote work, better communications, new technology, and broader lifestyle changes that turned what used to be a weekend on the water into a lifetime of boating. More and more people now consider boating not simply something they hope to do when they retire, but where they want to live, travel, and grow their families.  At the same time, market upheavals that might once have caused stock market crashes, fire sales, and fear are now, for many, mere blips on the radar. People have thicker skin, greater confidence, and a stronger sense that life is too short to wait.

At the same time, DWY saw the thinking of our clients changing, and we have been pivoting with them in a proactive rather than reactive way. If you have followed us closely over the past few years, you will have seen that our marketing and presentation have grown to equal that of the largest brokerages in the industry. Along with that, the types of yachts we represent have grown not just in size and volume, but in sophistication, reach, and purpose.

We are no longer operating in a market where simply placing a yacht on the MLS and waiting for a buyer is enough. Today’s successful brokerage requires serious marketing, professional media, deep market knowledge, strong digital reach, experienced negotiation, and a real understanding of how buyers live, travel, and think. That is where DWY has continued to separate itself. We have invested heavily in our listing presentation, photography, video, written content, data-driven pricing, and the overall client experience. The result is clear: more engagement, more qualified buyers, stronger listings, and a growing reputation as one of the most effective yacht brokerage firms in the country.

This year, we have seen strong activity across a number of sectors. Bluewater cruising yachts remain highly sought after, especially well-built, properly maintained yachts with proven offshore capability. Quality trawlers and long-range motoryachts continue to attract serious buyers looking for comfort, range, and independence. Performance cruising sailboats are finding renewed energy with owners who want true sailing ability without sacrificing comfort. And across the board, the best examples of any yacht type continue to command attention.

What has changed is that buyers are more selective than ever. They are educated, they are doing their homework, and they expect the yacht to be presented properly. The days of poor photos, incomplete specifications, and vague descriptions being good enough are over. Buyers want clarity. They want transparency. They want to understand the story of the yacht, how it has been cared for, what makes it special, and why it represents value in the current market. This is precisely where DWY has focused its efforts.

For sellers, this means the market is still very much alive, but presentation and pricing matter more than ever. The yachts that are clean, well-documented, well-photographed, and properly priced are receiving attention. The yachts that are stale, poorly presented, or priced on yesterday’s expectations are sitting. This is not a bad market. It is a more disciplined market, and disciplined markets reward expertise.

For buyers, the current environment is equally encouraging. Inventory has improved in many segments, and while the very best yachts still move quickly, buyers have more opportunity to compare, evaluate, and make informed decisions. We are seeing buyers take their time, but we are also seeing them act decisively when the right yacht appears. That balance is healthy. It creates a market that is active, serious, and increasingly professional.

As we look toward the second half of the year, we are optimistic. Fall has always been one of the most important seasons in yacht sales, and we expect a strong run into the Newport, Annapolis, Fort Lauderdale, and other major shows. The conversations we are having now suggest that many buyers are preparing for their next chapter, whether that means moving into a larger yacht, shifting from sail to power, pursuing long-range cruising, or finally making the move into ownership after years of consideration.

David Walters Yachts has been serving the yachting community for 44 years, and that longevity matters. It means we have seen strong markets, slow markets, changing markets, and everything in between. It means we understand that our job is not simply to sell boats, but to advise, guide, protect, and represent our clients with the professionalism they deserve.

We are proud of the growth we have achieved this year, but more importantly, we are proud of how we have achieved it: by investing in our clients, investing in our listings, and continuing to raise the standard for what yacht brokerage should look like.

To all of our clients, friends, and fellow yachtsmen, thank you for your continued trust in David Walters Yachts. Whether you are buying, selling, planning, dreaming, or simply enjoying time on the water this summer, we are grateful to be part of your yachting life.

We wish you and your families a wonderful Independence Day, a memorable America 250 celebration, and a safe and enjoyable summer on the water.
