Growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Josh’s life was shaped by the waters of the Great Lakes. Sailing, fishing, kayaking, and long summer days along the shores of Lake Michigan defined his childhood. Introduced to sailing at an early age by his father, those formative summers left a lasting impression and quietly set the course for his future.

In the wake of September 11, Josh felt a strong calling to serve. While pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan Technological University, he earned his commission through ROTC and developed a passion for aviation. His performance earned him a coveted slot in U.S. Air Force flight school, where he graduated at the top of his class and was selected to fly the U-28A for Air Force Special Operations Command.

Stationed in Destin, Florida, Josh balanced a demanding deployment cycle with time on the water, sailing a modest O’Day along the Emerald Coast. It was there—fittingly aboard his sailboat—that he met his wife, Amber. Over the course of eight combat deployments and more than two years spent in active combat zones, Josh began planning his next chapter, determined to turn his lifelong connection to the water into a career built on trust, precision, and service.

After separating from the Air Force in 2015, Josh relocated to Fort Lauderdale, where he was mentored by industry veteran David Walters. Under Dave’s guidance, Josh immersed himself in the yacht brokerage business, learning not only the technical and transactional aspects of the industry, but also the importance of integrity, relationships, and long-term client advocacy. When Dave was diagnosed with cancer, leadership transitioned sooner than expected, and Josh assumed responsibility for carrying forward the firm’s legacy.

Since then, David Walters Yachts has grown from a boutique brokerage of four brokers in a single office into a nationally recognized firm with more than twenty professionals across eight offices throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean. Under Josh’s leadership, the company has expanded into new markets, formed partnerships with respected yacht builders, and earned recognition as one of the country’s leading brokerages specializing in quality cruising yachts.

Now based in Annapolis, Maryland, Josh remains actively involved with clients while guiding the strategic growth of the firm. Known for his disciplined, results-driven approach and unwavering commitment to client service, he brings the same focus and accountability to yacht brokerage that defined his military career. Whether advising clients, leading his team, or welcoming visitors at the Port Annapolis Marina office, Josh embodies the core values of knowledge, experience, and integrity that define David Walters Yachts.
