NEXT BOAT is the last Ocean Series 45 built and was commissioned by a repeat Morris customer who wanted an exquisite boat that would excel both racing short and single handed and also comfortably cruising. Working closing with the team at Morris during the build, the owner optimized the boat for sailing ability with a custom Jim Taylor designed keel and rudder as well as a taller than standard Hall Spars carbon mast and a custom cockpit with more protection under way and a custom larger wheel from Edson to allow fingertip control sitting on the coaming.
On deck she is set up for off shore sailing and below is finished in varnished cherry with the heirloom quality craftsmanship Morris is known for. The raised salon design provides a large, open interior with great visibility and lots of light. Immaculately maintained by her original owner, she looks and sails beautifully.
The Ocean Series 45 was designed by Chuck Paine and Tom Morris as an extension of Chuck’s Bermuda Series designs and was inspired by the successful Ocean Series 48. Originally commissioned for a repeat customer who wanted a boat like the 48 but planned on sailing and racing either singlehanded or double handed, the 45 is very similar to the 48 but with almost a third less displacement everything is easier from pushing the boat off a dock to handling the loads underway. With a very comfortable two cabin, one head layout, lots of light below and abundant storage she is both comfortable to cruise on and exhilarating to sail.
