VIDIMUS — 2008 Fountaine Pajot Orana 44Extensively Refit • Repowered 2024 • New Evolution Sails 2026 • Four Cabin / Four Head • Turn-Key Cruiser
VIDIMUS is not the typical 2008 cruising catamaran. She has been the beneficiary of an unusually extensive program of upgrades, replacement and preventative maintenance, with major systems renewed from stem to stern. The result is a proven Fountaine Pajot Orana 44 that offers much of the confidence and equipment of a considerably newer cruising catamaran—without the new-boat price.
Highlights include a 2024 repower with twin Volvo diesels and new saildrives, new fixed propellers, upgraded electrical and solar systems, renewed standing rigging, newer tender and outboard, extensive interior improvements, newer forward windshield/windows, and—most recently—brand-new Evolution mainsail and headsail installed in August 2026.
The Orana 44 was designed by Joubert-Nivelt and built by Fountaine Pajot in France. VIDIMUS is the desirable four-cabin, four-head version, combining genuine cruising capability with an enormous amount of interior and exterior living space. At approximately 43' LOA, 24'1" beam and only 3'9" draft, she provides the stability, shallow-water access and living space that make cruising catamarans so attractive.
For the cruiser who does not want to spend the first several years replacing old systems, VIDIMUS deserves serious consideration.

The owner's post-survey repair notes document a significant amount of work addressing or updating items identified during the 2022 survey, including replacement propellers, rigging work, plumbing/head improvements, interior refurbishment and other repairs.
PROPULSION & MECHANICAL
One of VIDIMUS' biggest advantages over many older cruising cats is her 2024 repower. The original survey showed twin Volvo D2-40s and Volvo 130S-B saildrives; the current intake information reports the boat has subsequently been repowered with twin Volvo diesels and new saildrives, with approximately 50 hours reported since installation.
The original folding propellers had accumulated wear and increased pitch. The owner subsequently installed new fixed 17x14 propellers, reporting that the engines now turn approximately 3000 RPM, within the appropriate operating range.
Additional mechanical features include:
- Twin diesel propulsion
- Twin saildrives
- Dual engine controls
- Engine instrumentation at helm
- Integral raw-water intake through saildrives
- Raw-water strainers
- Fuel/water separating filters
- Approximately 92 gallons fuel capacity reported in the survey
- Engine service reported June 2026
SAILS & RIGGING
VIDIMUS has received one of the most important—and expensive—upgrades for a cruising sailboat:
NEW EVOLUTION SAILS — AUGUST 2026
- New Evolution fully battened mainsail
- New Evolution furling headsail
The boat is equipped with an aluminum mast and boom, Facnor roller furling, lazy jacks/stack system, traveler, mainsheet system and an electric winch along with manual winches. The survey found the mast, boom, chainplates, turnbuckles and much of the associated rigging hardware serviceable and in good condition.
The owner's records further state that the shrouds and forestay were renewed, with the standing rig subsequently inspected in 2024.
Together with the new 2026 sails, this represents a substantial reduction in near-term sailing-system expense for the next owner.
ELECTRICAL, SOLAR & OFF-GRID CRUISING
VIDIMUS has been configured with extended cruising in mind.
Equipment reported aboard includes:
- Victron solar charging equipment
- Approximately 600 watts of solar
- Approximately 2,000-watt inverter
- Large 12-volt house battery bank
- Separate engine-start batteries
- Battery monitoring
- Shore-power system
- Engine alternator charging
- Starlink satellite connectivity
The 2022 survey specifically identified the electrical/solar system as an area due for upgrading, making the subsequent investment in this area particularly meaningful. The original configuration included engine alternators, shore charging, inverter and four solar panels.
There is no generator reported aboard—VIDIMUS instead takes the increasingly popular cruising approach of substantial battery capacity, solar generation and inverter power.
NAVIGATION & ELECTRONICS
Current owner intake information reports:
- Raymarine Element approximately 8" chartplotter
- Autopilot
- AIS transmit/receive
- VHF radio
- Depth instrumentation
- Fuel and water monitoring
- Starlink
The earlier survey also documented Raymarine navigation instrumentation, autopilot hardware, VHF, Class B AIS and chartplotter equipment.
ACCOMMODATIONS
VIDIMUS is the four-cabin / four-head version of the Orana 44.
Each hull contains forward and aft double cabins, providing four genuine private staterooms. The bridge-deck saloon is bright and open, with wraparound windows, a large settee, navigation area and galley.
The four-cabin arrangement works particularly well for:
- A cruising family
- Two cruising couples
- Owners who want separate guest accommodations
- Liveaboards needing an office/workspace
- Extended family cruising
Each cabin offers a double berth, storage, cabinetry, lighting and ventilation. Each hull provides dedicated head/shower facilities, giving VIDIMUS considerably more privacy than many owner-version boats when cruising with guests.
Interior improvements reported by the owner include professionally renewed upholstery, newer mirrors, newer plumbing fixtures and replacement heads.
GALLEY
The galley is located on the bridge deck and opens directly into the saloon and cockpit—an excellent arrangement both underway and at anchor.
Equipment includes:
- Molded countertops
- Double sink
- LPG cooking
- Three-burner stove
- Separate oven
- Isotherm refrigeration
- Generous upper and lower cabinetry
- Hot and cold pressure water
- Newer plumbing fixtures
- Approximately 6-gallon hot-water heater
The original survey describes the galley arrangement and its ENO three-burner LPG stove/oven and Isotherm refrigeration.
WATER & PLUMBING
VIDIMUS is equipped for extended cruising with:
- Twin freshwater tanks
- Approximately 150 gallons freshwater capacity reported in the 2022 survey
- Pressure freshwater system
- Accumulator
- Hot-water heater
- Sea Water Pro watermaker
- Multiple heads and showers
- Gray-water sump systems
- Holding tank system
The survey described the Sea Water Pro watermaker as like-new at the time and documented the twin-tank freshwater system.
COCKPIT & DECK
The Orana 44 is particularly strong as an outdoor-living boat.
VIDIMUS features:
- Large aft cockpit
- Wraparound cockpit seating
- Cockpit dining table
- Fiberglass hardtop
- Raised helm
- Wide side decks
- Large forward trampoline
- Sugar-scoop transoms
- Swim ladder
- Transom shower
