The Commander 44 was Chris-Craft’s limited-production return to the cabin cruiser: a classic lobster

yacht profile on a hull built in Italy by Austin Parker and finished to Chris-Craft’s specification. Few were 

built, and they rarely come to market. Lumen has 460 hours on twin Volvo Penta IPS600 diesels with 

joystick docking.

She is laid out for a day with friends or a weekend away. An open teak cockpit with an L-shaped lounge 

leads through sliding glass doors to an enclosed, air-conditioned deckhouse with the helm, galley and 

dinette all on one level. Below are two staterooms that sleep five and a head with a separate shower.

Factory figures put her cruise at around 26 knots, and 396 gallons of diesel puts Block Island, Newport 

and Nantucket within easy reach from the Hamptons.

The details draw attention at any dock: a champagne hull, varnished mahogany caprails, a wood-rim 

steering wheel, diamond-quilted helm seating and stainless portlights.
