TOUCHÉ For Sale
Designed by Christian Stimson built by Mag Marine in Turkey.
The Stimson 66ft yacht embodies an intelligent blend of elegance and performance, designed to be easily handled and uncomplicated to sail. Key attributes of this design include the ability to be sailed shorthanded by two or three people for coastal cruising, while still being competitive with a full racing crew in IRC offshore classics such as the Fastnet, Middle Sea Race, and the Giraglia.
Stimson Yachts has meticulously balanced cost, complexity, and performance throughout the design process. The result is a fast, well-appointed yacht that is straightforward to sail. Central to this is the use of composite construction, which minimizes structural weight and maximizes the ballast ratio.
For hull no.1 Touché, strip-plank cedar construction has been chosen. This method reduces the cost and time required for building the hull compared to composite sandwich laminate, with only a small, acceptable increase in weight. The wooden hull is sheathed with E-glass and epoxy, while the deck is a male-moulded, vacuum-consolidated E-glass/epoxy/ PVC foam laminate. High Modulus has handled all structural engineering.
The primary interior structures are made from lightweight E-glass/foam core/epoxy sandwich panels, with non-structural joinery fabricated from custom E- glass/foam core panels with a 4mm wood veneer. This 66-footer offers the speed, stability, and control needed for shorthanded sailing without resorting to the excessive systems often found on modern yachts.
Standard features include electric winches and a powered headsail furler. The non-overlapping headsails are easy to tack, eliminating the complexity and crew requirements of a spinnaker pole by using a fixed bowsprit and asymmetrical spinnakers. This weight-saving approach allows the yacht to benefit from A-sails while achieving sensible VMG numbers offwind.
The yacht boasts a ballast ratio of over 40%, with an efficient, high-aspect keel fin beneath a slender, easily driven hull and a powerful rig.
