SIROCCO is a Robert Perry-designed Mirage 35 that offers the blend of sailing performance, practical cruising comfort, and solid construction that has kept these 1980s performance cruisers relevant with experienced owners. Located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, she presents as a well-maintained and thoughtfully updated example, with meaningful improvements to sails, engine, standing rigging, electronics, and deck gear that make her especially appealing for the buyer seeking an affordable, capable racer-cruiser with real pedigree.
The Mirage 35 has always been an attractive design for sailors who want more than just a simple coastal cruiser. Perry gave the boat a beamy, powerful hull, fin keel, balanced spade rudder, and a straightforward deck layout that supports both spirited sailing and manageable shorthanded use. On SIROCCO, that appeal is reinforced by a deck-stepped anodized aluminum mast, stainless standing rigging replaced in 2016, airfoil spreaders replaced in 2016, most running rigging replaced in 2016, and all lines led aft for easier singlehanding. A Hood Seafurl headsail furler, lazy jacks, Lewmar #45 self-tailing primaries, whisker pole, and updated Doyle mainsail and 110% genoa from 2021 round out a sail plan that gives the boat real utility for club racing, daysailing, and weekend cruising.
She has also benefited from substantial mechanical and navigation upgrades that matter on a boat in this size and price range. SIROCCO is powered by a 2017 Yanmar 3YM30AE diesel with approximately 350 hours, paired with a replaced aluminum fuel tank from 2017. At the helm, she carries a Simrad NSE 8 radar/GPS/depth/fishfinder display installed in 2011, a Scanstrut self-leveling radome mount, Raymarine ST60 depth and speed, TackTick wireless wind instruments, a West Marine DSC VHF, and a Raymarine Evolution EV-100 wheel autopilot added in 2023. That is a very respectable electronics package for a 35-foot performance cruiser and adds meaningful confidence for coastal passagemaking and short-handed operation.
Below deck, SIROCCO offers a traditional and usable cruising interior with teak bulkheads and trim, teak-and-holly sole, 6’5” headroom, a private forward cabin with V-berth, an enclosed head, a large U-shaped main saloon settee that converts to a double berth, a starboard settee berth, quarter berth, galley to port, and navigation station to starboard. The galley includes a double stainless sink, large top-loading icebox, and two-burner Hillerange propane stove with oven. Interior updates such as LED lighting, stereo equipment, TV/DVD, LP gas control and sniffer, cabin fan, cockpit table, bimini, winter cover, and companionway screen make the boat feel complete and ready for practical owner use rather than like a stripped-out project.
For the buyer looking for a proven Perry design with the right upgrades already in place, SIROCCO represents an appealing opportunity. She has the kind of update profile that is often hard to find at this price point: newer engine, newer sails, updated standing rigging, modernized electronics, and equipment that supports both enjoyable local sailing and capable cruising. That combination should make her stand out to buyers who know what matters in an older performance cruiser.
