"Dea Latis" was designed from the beginning for live-aboard comfort with an extensive equipment list:
Performance & Handling: This strong, sea-kindly semi-custom yacht is surprisingly agile due to her "barn door" sized rudder with full-length skeg and is surprisingly fast, with 7-8 knots being the norm in good winds.
Fuel & Water Capacity: Owners equipped her with 250 gallons of fuel capacity (contained in two saddle tanks under salon settees(126 port 75 stbd) and a 50-gallon tank under the aft berth ) and 150 gallons of water capacity (in two tanks centerline beneath the salon sole ) for extended voyages. Fresh water can be easily and quickly made with the Village Marine reverse osmosis system powered by the diesel genset.
Redundant Systems: Features redundant electronics for enhanced safety and reliability.
GalleyGalley (to starboard, provides walk-through access to the aft cabin):
- Ample Storage: In closed cabinets above the Wahlee Stone countertops. All galley cabinets have adjustable shelves inside.
- Bright Interior: Mission White Formica facing on the cabinetry makes the galley area much brighter than standard teak cabinetry.
- Appliances: Freezer, refrigerator, three-burner Force 10 propane/butane stove (with oven and broiler). Pull out trash basket. 700w Kenmore carousel microwave located above the stove.
- Refrigeration/Freezer: Both refrigerator and freezer have generous and easy top and front access. Cooled by two ultra-quiet Stone Cold compressors beneath the aft cabin berth. Digital readout temperature monitor and control for each unit. Compressor units cooled by a dedicated seawater pump but can also function as air cooled units. Double gaskets on Freezer/refrigeration. Solid FRP with heat shield insulating panels for Freezer/Refrigeration.
- Fire Safety: Fireboy-Xintex control system including the control solenoid cut off valve in the gas locker is at the aft end of the galley.
- Sink Area: Centerline island located above the engine compartment, includes an under-counter mounted stainless steel sink with a new pull-out single lever faucet set. Sink supplied by a redundant two-pump fresh water supply system. Foot pumps in the sole provide backup for both fresh- and salt-water to the sink. Storage cabinet for cleaning supplies at the aft end of the sink counter. Clear plexi piece behind companionway stairs over sink area. Knife rack at the aft end of galley counter.
- Lighting & Ventilation: Ample lighting for working and cleaning up in the galley. One outboard opening port and two larger optional opening ports into the cockpit provide cross ventilation. Two Hella fans help disperse cooking heat.
- Propane: Two ten-pound aluminum propane tanks.
- Custom Features: Removable countertop over stove with stainless steel backsplash. Slide out cutting board. Electric sump drains in ref and freezer.
Stepping into the salon through the companionway, one immediately notes the exceptional quality of the teak woodwork for which Hylas is recognized. The interior of the boat is teak with teak & holly soles throughout.
Salon:
- Exceptional Light & Ventilation: Four fixed stainless steel mounted ports and two fixed overhead port lights provide excellent visibility and light. Ventilation is provided by two opening stainless steel ports (to starboard and port) with two overhead opening hatches with attached screens. All ports and hatches throughout the vessel can be screened, and there are custom sunshades for the six fixed ports in the salon.
- Lighting: Five 12v halogen light fixtures and two LED fixtures provide lighting for reading or ambiance. Two Alpenglow fluorescent fixtures overhead provide bright, energy-efficient lighting, with the Alpenglow light over the portside table having an optional red night vision bulb. Rheostats for overhead halogen lights.
- Flexible Dining: The beautiful teak Hylas table can be set for four or six people with a slide-out under-table seat doubling as an auxiliary storage cabinet.
- Ample Storage: Liquor storage and the stereo/radio are located in louvered cabinets to port. Starboard cabinets have been used for storage of electronics, binoculars, etc. All storage cabinets on the boat have inside lights with door-opening activated switches.
- Pantry Space: Ample storage behind the port and starboard settees, currently used as pantry space. Together with the refrigerator and the freezer, "Dea Latis" carries enough provisions.
- Convertible Berths: The settee, typical of all H-49’s, has a pullout shelf and mattress providing a generous bunk. The salon table lowers and can be covered with custom cushions then made up into a double bunk. If necessary, "Dea Latis" can sleep 9 people.
- Elegant Touches: An elegant Chelsea Shipstrike key-wind clock and Chelsea barometer will remain with the boat.
- Teak Mast Wrap: Adds elegance to the salon and provides storage for long items such as boat hooks and fishing poles.
- Bookshelves: To port with fiddles, while to starboard shelves provide deeper storage.
- Upholstery: Interior cushions and mattresses throughout the inside of the boat are covered in their original Blue Ultrasuede upholstery , specifically Andari fabric, Courtesan Blue.
- Custom Features: Lamp chrome push button latches on all cabinets and drawers. Teak screens for main saloon and both heads. Lee Cloths and overhead eyes for starboard settee, forward, aft and port cabin bunks. All opening doors have self-catching latches where possible. Double seal all vertical end grains to avoid water damage. Screw down main cabin sole in corners with bungs. Mission White around ports and cabinets. Starboard side settee has straight cushions (without rounded ends). Small fold down settee table with teak top. Port & Starboard side open shelves between cabinets have a 2nd shelf with removable fiddles on both shelves. Additional swivel light over portside bulkhead over dinette. Main salon sole is in three (3) sections lengthwise with inspection plates. Two Hella fans, one each on port and starboard bulkheads.
- Navigation Station:
- U-shaped Nav Station: Located just aft of the salon to port. It is all teak, no Formica.
- Ample Storage: Three storage drawers to the left of the computer desk and two enclosed bookshelves/cabinets overhead with louvered doors.
- Swiveling Nav Station Seat: For comfort and easy access to controls.
- Instrument Panel: Chart desk with 110v and 12v panels to the left. Radar cabinet. Additional overhead swivel reading light.
Owner's Stateroom (Aft):
Queen Size Berth: Hylas's standard queen size berth.
Enhanced Ventilation: Two optional opening ports at the head of the berth , two additional opening ports to starboard and port , and two dorade vents with screens.
Ample Storage: Full-length lockers to starboard and to port with ample storage on each side. These lockers are equipped with shelves but can be converted to hanging lockers. Six drawers at the foot of the berth provide additional storage along with a shallow cabinet set against the forward bulkhead.
Engine Room Access: Through removable sound-insulated teak doors below the shallow cabinet.
Overhead Hatch: Stainless-steel hatch overhead is equipped with a factory-installed Ocean Air screen/sunshade trimmed in teak.
Lighting & Comfort: Stereo speakers mounted in the ceiling in the aft cabin and the salon. Rheostats for overhead halogen lights. One Hella single-speed and one Hella two-speed fan at the head of the berth.
Master Head Access: Mirror on backside of galley door leading to aft stateroom.
Custom Features: Portside vanity with lockers as standard. Portside hanging locker with full length louvered door with adjustable shelves. Starboard side hanging locker has full length louvered door adjustable shelves. Two aft facing opening ports. Small shelf portside over vanity with handhold. Fiddles located on bookshelves behind owners stateroom berth. Lamp chrome push button latches.
VIP Stateroom (Forward):
- Queen-sized V-Berth: Standard Hylas Queen-sized V-berth mattress, 6’ wide and 6’9” long, with no cut out. Berth has two-piece cushion.
- Bountiful Storage: Lockers to port and starboard with additional closed compartments and open shelving. Front to have split opening door to locker with adjustable shelves. Forward of that where drawers are located now there is an enclosed bin access from top. Shelves above bunk on portside have two open cabinets in the middle with forward and aft end cabinets to be enclosed with louvered doors and rounded corners. Shelves above bunk on starboard side to have one open cabinet with two forward cabinets to be enclosed. The aft cabinet is to also be enclosed with louvered doors. Port side top to bottom hanging locker with hanging bar and three adjustable shelves. Stbd side top to bottom hanging locker with hanging bar and three adjustable shelves.
- Bookcase: A two-shelf bookcase is against the watertight bulkhead separating the VIP cabin from the chain locker.
- Excellent Ventilation & Light: Stainless-steel Manship hatch overhead with a factory-installed Ocean Air screen/sunshade unit trimmed in teak. Stainless steel opening port on starboard side with a screen. Screened dorade vent.
- Lighting & Comfort: Two rheostat-controlled halogen lamps and two fixed halogen reading lights, as well as two Hella fans. Rheostats for overhead halogen lights.
- Full-Length Mirror: Mounted behind the lockable door that opens to the passageway to the salon.
- Direct Head Access: A second door on starboard leads directly into the forward head.
- Custom Features: Lamp chrome push button latches.
Third Stateroom (Portside):
- Pull-out shelf with cushion insert for double berth. Bunk to be raised to 36" with stainless plate on top for work area.
- Ample Storage: Beneath bunk and behind washer/dryer. Middle section to have two solid teak opening doors to storage area. Hanging locker to be equal to bunk height.
- Overhead Lighting & Ventilation: Overhead factory installed Ocean Air screen/sunshade trimmed in teak in the Manship stainless steel hatch. Two opening ports with screens. Two halogen reading lights and two overhead rheostat-controlled halogen lights. Two additional swivel reading lights.
- Access: To knot meter sensor. Fluxgate compass below sole.
- AC inlet.
- Custom Features: Lamp chrome push button latches. Cut in the fiddle similar to H49#32 to mount vice on berth.
Master Head (Aft):
- Spacious with Ample Storage: In the vanity cabinet over the sink, a large linen cabinet outboard, and beneath the sink.
- Privacy: Has the closed pass-through option, chosen for increased privacy and more usable space at the nav station.
- “Home-Sized Bowl” Manual Head: Raritan PHII toilet with manual salt-water flush.

Teak rubrail with stainless steel plate. Four chromed dorades funnel fresh air into the vessel, with the forward pair protected by stainless railings. Stern pulpit has a swing-open metal gate and extended solid stainless carried forward to the next stanchion.
Cockpit Features: Spacious Hylas cockpit with high coamings for comfortable back support. Waterproof seat and back cushions provide seating for up to eight persons. Two folding D-rings for secure tether attachment (one at companionway, one behind helm). Louvered and screened companionway hatch board with removable Plexiglas panel. Cockpit teak planking instead of a cockpit grate. Offset pedestal guard. Cockpit volume control for stereo. Three cockpit opening ports (two over Galley and one over Nav Station).
Canvas: Bimini top, complete surround of zip-in/out isinglass curtains, and a complete set of insect/partial shade screens. All canvas is linen-colored Sunbrella.
Lazarette Storage: Two lazarettes with hydraulic lift arms and a "trunk" beneath the aft swim platform/steps provide lots of storage. The "trunk" has its own dedicated bilge pump with a high-water alarm in the cockpit. All below decks compartments have 12v lighting inside.
