    DESCRIPTION:

    SeaMotions - OUTREMER 45 DANSON – 2003 –

The Outremer 45 Danson design is a classic in the world of performance bluewater catamarans. Created by Gérard Danson, the founder of Outremer, it embodies his philosophy that a true cruising catamaran should be light, seaworthy, and capable of safely carrying a family anywhere in the world. This is not just a comfortable boat—it’s a sailor’s boat, built by sailors for sailors. Agile in light winds, steady and reassuring when the breeze picks up, the 45 is as capable of crossing oceans as it is of turning a coastal cruise into a memorable adventure.

Built in 2003 and launched in 2004, this example has been under the care of the same owner since 2007 (ex Kadavu). In all that time, she’s been sailed with purpose and pleasure, never pushed beyond what was needed, and always maintained with care. During the second ownership she was only sailed 2-3 months each year and then stored on the hard. That approach means her rig, sails, and systems are all in sound condition, ready for her next chapter. Equiped with a coppercoat, the next owners will enjoy some time without having to add new antifouling regularly. She carries the legacy of Danson’s design in every line—slim hulls for performance, balanced sail plan for ease of handling, and just the right amount of comfort to make life aboard both safe and enjoyable.

Her equipment is geared towards practical, independent cruising. On deck, a full cockpit enclosure and shade curtains turn the cockpit into a sheltered living space in any weather, while a dedicated canopy over the trampolines provides a shady retreat when at anchor. A hard kayak sits securely on deck, ready to explore remote coves or paddle ashore. Her sail wardrobe, including a well-cut mainsail and headsails in good condition, offers flexibility across wind ranges. Winches, deck gear, and running rigging are all chosen to be robust and efficient, keeping sail handling smooth and safe.

Navigation and onboard systems are equally well thought out. Electronics are arranged for clear visibility and easy access from the helm, while safety equipment is in place for offshore passages. The saloon is equipped for real cooking at sea, with reliable refrigeration, ample work surfaces, and good storage. It is bright and well-ventilated, making it as pleasant at anchor in the tropics as it is on passage.

The Outremer 45 remains one of the most respected designs in bluewater sailing for good reason—light, responsive, and sea-kindly, yet tough enough to carry a family safely across oceans. This particular catamaran stands as a fine example of that vision: a pure sailor’s boat, ready to go and ideal for anyone seeking both performance and security on the water.

Now lying close to the Outremer shipyard, she is offered for sale directly through the yard. That means her next crew will benefit from the unmatched technical insight, safety focus, and support that only the original builder can provide—making her not just a boat purchase, but the start of a voyage backed by the very people who brought her to life.

Come and join the OUTREMER family!

The world oceans are waiting for you.

    the word of the owner

    SeaMotions Outremer 45 Danson

    Word from the Owner

‘We did not simply buy a catamaran. We chose a companion for the kind of life most people only dream about. And SeaMotions delivered on that promise, every single time.’ We acquired her in 2007 directly from the Outremer yard in La Grande Motte, as her second owners. Her fi rst owners had already completed an Atlantic circuit with their family, even documenting their journey in a book. We sailed her home to the Netherlands ourselves, and that delivery passage told us everything we needed to know. This boat wants to move. In 2010 we fi tted her with a complete suit of high-specifi cation Quantum sails, and then we put them to proper use. In 2010-2011, the four of us - two adults and our two children- completed our own ‘rondje Atantic’. That journey not just defi ned what SeaMotions truly is, but who we became on her. She carried us across the ocean safely, swiftly, and in genuine comfort. She surfed down Atlantic swell at speeds up to 18 knots, yet always remaining controlled and predictable. Equally impressive was her upwind performance: thanks to her daggerboards, she turns what is often the least enjoyable point of sail into something fast and comfortable. A passage from Bonaire to the Dominican Republic - 380nm hard on the wind - took us just 2.5 days. It has to be felt to be believed. There was never a creak, never a groan from the hulls - just the sound of water passing beneath us, faster than you expect, more comfortably than you think possible’ From 2011 to 2018, SeaMotions continued to prove herself in northern waters, taking us every summer from the Netherlands to Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Passages that showed us a different side of this boat. Equally at home in the grey chop of the North Sea as in the blue of the tropics, and somehow, always feeling like home. We installed two Webasto heaters, making those passages warm and cosy, keeping watch inside. In 2018, we undertook a major refi t of the hulls: the underwater hull was stripped back to gelcoat and treated with fi ve layers of Coppercoat, which is, after a touch up in 2025, still in excellent condition today, and the hulls were polished and got new striping. That same year, we sailed her south again - via the Scilly Islands to the Algarve - where we enjoyed several seasons cruising in summer before continuing into the Mediterranean along the Spanish coast, the Balearics, and as far as Sardinia. SeaMotions carries the miles lightly.

Everything you see on SeaMotions today refl ects nearly two decades of attentive, knowledgeable ownership. I have personally cared for every system on board, not out of necessity, but out of conviction. When you care for a boat with your own hands, you know her intimately. I always had a clear philosophy: keep it robust, understandable, and dependable. The result is a boat that is not only high-performing, but also trustworthy and easy to manage - even far from shore. The electrical system deserves special mention. I replaced it entirely with a Victron Ecosystem. LiFePo4 batteries, a Multiplus inverter/charger, Orion DC-DC chargers, upgraded solar panels with Victron Mppt’s. This setup ensures a consistent and ample power supply under all conditions. Since then, we have never experienced a shortage of power. Combined with the watermaker and an additional deep-freeze unit, SeaMotions offers a level of autonomy that changes the way you cruise - whether it’s staying longer in remote anchorages or freezing freshly caught tuna on the spot. Mechanically, she has been maintained to the highest standard: annually serviced (oil every year/100 hrs), with renewed components including water pumps, alternators, and stainless exhaust elbows, standing rigging replaced, saildrives membranes replaced - always with the care only the owner can give. But beyond the specifi cations, what truly defi nes SeaMotions is how she feels. To us she is a solid, safe, and reassuring home on the water. And when conditions allow, she rewards you with exhilarating speed and effortless miles. We have sailed the boat an average of only two to three months per year for the last fi fteen years, which means she has been rested and fl ogged. Her structure is solid, her systems are honest, and overall she shows none of the fatigue you fi nd in boats that have been chartered or left to others to maintain. SeaMotions has given our family some of the finest moments of our lives. She has been a home on the water, a fast passage maker, a safe refuge in storms, and a joyful companion in calm. We part with her now only because new adventures call elsewhere, not because she has ever let us down, not once, not ever. If you are serious about blue water sailing, truly serious, then you already know what an Outremer 45 represents. What you may not yet know is how rare it is to find one maintained like this, with this history, and with this much life still ahead of her. SeaMotions is ready, The only question is: are you?
