This combination of solid and cored construction ensures a stable and stiff hull for serious offshore sailing while also reducing the weight of the yacht, enabling excellent light wind performance. In areas of high loads, such as deck fittings and rigging components, reinforced backing plates are integrated into the laminate.

Along the centerline, the hull is solid laminate. The structural grid built of carbon fiber and fiberglass, as well as the bulkheads, are bonded and laminated to the hull to create a single monolithic structure resulting in a stable, stiff, and responsive hull.

The Secret Below the waterline

The rudder blade is constructed of laminated fiberglass with a PVC foam core. The biconical rudder stock is built of 6082 anticorodal alloy aluminum and seated with self-aligning bearings. The keel is T-shaped with a steel structure and torpedo style bulb with 3% antimony lead ballast. The steel structure is enclosed in a fiberglass fairing to ensure optimal hydrodynamic stability.

The deck configuration is top of its class, with a bountiful area for sunbathing on the coach roof, length to stretch out and lounge in the cockpit, and the ability to enjoy water activities from the swim platform that lowers right to the water level. Clean and uncluttered, every line is neatly organized and led out of sight, emerging only at the winches. The mainsail traveler, deck hatches, portlights, and cleats are all flush-mounted. Storage is impressive aboard the Italia 13.98. On deck, five lockers provide plenty of room for equipment and gear including a segmented sail and anchor locker at the bow, deep cockpit lockers, and a dedicated life raft stowage locker.

Perfect for cruising, yet capable of delivering a podium finish, the Italia 13.98 is a very versatile boat. The long waterline ensures speed while the deep keel and rudder pair together to provide exceptional stability, an excellent righting moment, and agile performance for fingertip sailing. The sail controls are sensibly configured, making the boat easy to manage with minimal crew, ensuring a fun and relaxing time on the water with the family.

The high-performance fractional rig includes a silver anodized tapered aluminum mast by John Mast with double swept-back spreaders, boom with two double reefing lines and internal outhaul, and a telescoping vang. As an option, the mast and boom are available in carbon fiber. The standing rigging is high quality, discontinuous Navtec rod rigging, and turnbuckles. The V1 chainplate is located outboard at the sheerline while the D1 is placed on the coach roof to ensure unrestricted movement along the side deck. Performance roller bearing blocks and shackles, hydraulic backstay, pad eyes for the gennaker, under deck mounted jib furler, and Dyneema running rigging all come standard.

Performance on deck and luxury below, the Italia 13.98 incorporates many features based on the feedback of cruisers and liveaboard sailors. Storage space is premium with many drawers, cabinets, cupboard, and shelves harmoniously integrated into the overall design of the interior. Everything has its place; everything has its purpose.
