John Barbaro

Annapolis, MD

(443) 370-9962

John’s passion for being on the water began in college when a fraternity brother taught him how to sail. After 16 years in medical sales, John followed his passion for being on the water. He earned his USCG 100 ton Masters license with sailing and towing endorsements as well as his RYA Yachtmasters.

His new career as a luxury charter captain took him from the Carolinas, through the Bahamas and Caribbean along the entire East Coast to New England. He’s done delivery work on a variety of vessels and his experience has also taken him though sections of the Great Loop. His knowledge of systems aboard yachts was strengthened while working in the Annapolis Maryland area in technical support for Vetus –Maxwell and later as a service manager for Hinckley Yacht Services on the Chesapeake Bay.

John enjoys teaching and has his American Sailing Association instructor certification.  Combining travel with boating has brought him vast experience in wonderful destinations including Italy, Tahiti and Greece. John can help you navigate through the sales process, whether you’re buying or selling a yacht. His familiarity with sailing and power vessels of all sizes and configurations including catamarans will help you make better decisions in your search for the right yacht. He prides himself on his attention to detail while also being responsive to his clients. He looks forward to working with you on your next yacht transaction.

We were extremely pleased with how John managed our boat listing and sale from the very beginning. He had excellent communication with us,  the buyers and followed through with issues immediately. We were particularly pleased with how he handled the negotiations and how supportive he was with us as sellers. I highly recommend John and will be contacting him in the future if we are in the position to buy another boat.

- Giga & Skip Smith - Sellers of Gulfstar 44 Motor Yacht

John is not your typical yacht broker. He makes you feel as if you are his only client. John treats you like family. He is extremely knowledgeable, honest and trustworthy. John goes the extra mile, or should I say miles!! He was with us every step of the way and he doesn't disappear after the sale. I know we made a great friend for life!! Love this guy!

We were lucky to find John Barbaro. He went far beyond our expectations. John’s professionalism and knowledge were key to helping us find the right boat. John made our experience the best it could be and we would highly recommend him.

- Chris and Antonella Nester - Buyers of Endeavour 42

John helped me realize what I most needed in a yacht and gave quality advice through the entire purchasing process. I'd work with him again and have recommended him to my friends.

- Joshua from Annapolis - Buyer of Catalina 42

Laura and I love our passionately cared for Sabre 38 which John guided us to.  Purchasing a used sailboat was both exciting and frightening but John sailed us through the process and expertly steered us to the perfect boat.  After understanding the boat we were searching for, John led us to this hidden gem which turned out to be the perfect boat.

A German Frers design, the Hylas 44 offers shallow draft and excellent sailing performance.</p> <p>Designed by German Frers, the hull of the Hylass 44 boasts a wonderful sheer line with a low profile unique among center cockpit boats. A true eye-pleasing design well suited for the traditionalist looking for the comfort and safety afforded by a center cockpit. The side decks are wide, providing for easy unrestricted access to the foredeck and coach roof while underway. Most are found with an aluminum toe rail and tall stainless-steel stanchions with double lifelines. Handrails along the coach roof and boarding gates to port and starboard add further convenience.</p> <p>The hull is constructed of solid fiberglass (GRP) with an external lead keel bolted to a very deep keel stub and featured a skeg hung rudder for extra grounding protection. Decks are fiberglass with an endgrain balsa core. Deck material included both the option for contrasting non-skid and teak overlay. Many with original teak decks have since been redone with non-skid. The hull and deck joint is fastened with an inward turning flange and through bolted at the toe rail on 6-inch centers with a flexible sealant. Interior furniture and bulkheads have been bonded to the hull to ensure a strong and stiff structure well noted in the vessels sailing characteristics.</p> <p>The cabin is finished in elegant teak with a teak &amp; holly sole throughout. To forward is a private stateroom with oversized pullman berth and comfortable sitting area. There is extra storage with drawers, hanging locker and outboard shelving. Next aft is the forward head. The passageway continues aft to the main salon which features a large u-shaped convertible dining settee to port with a folding table on center. Aft to port is the nav station with electronics and electrical panel. Across to starboard is the straight-line galley running aft that includes a stainless-steel sink, refrigeration/freezer compartment, storage spaces, massive countertop space, and a propane stove with oven. Amidships is the engine &amp; systems access that can be opened from both port &amp; starboard hatches. The starboard passageway continues aft to the large master stateroom with sitting area, drawer, locker &amp; shelf storage and a private enclosed head with shower. There are numerous opening hatches &amp; portlights throughout the vessel providing illumination and ventilation for the entire cabin.</p> <p>The Hylas 44 is a fantastic option for the budget minded cruiser. The majority of these boats have weathered the years well. Much of the original systems have since been improved and these vessels generally come well equipped and ready to cruise. Well built and exceptionally capable, the Hylas 44 is a very choice option for the discerning sailor.<br />Cruised by knowledgeable owners for the last three years and lived aboard for the last nine years. Upgrades were made throughout their ownership. </p> <p>Interior Features Include:</p> <ul> <li>Custom mattress in aft cabin</li> <li>LED lights and nav lights</li> <li>Bug screens on all ports and hatches; custom bug screen for companion way hatch</li> <li>Television, 12v, located on a fold up mount on cabin top</li> <li>Lee cloth for starboard saloon settee</li> <li>WATERMAKER</li> <li>Katadyn PowerSurvivor 160E 6.5 gph 12v (new drive motor installed 2019)</li> <li>Zodiac Cadet 10' dinghy and Yamaha 6hp motor also included.</li> </ul> [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 5CBD8B87-9D30-01AF-A84BB7A8D78F2E9C [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 1924 [empty string]
