Hood Sailmakers said that during October and November it will donate proceeds from new sail orders and service work to the Warrior Sailing Program.

The Rhode Island-based company said the program, through efforts ranging from introductory basic training camps to world-class sailing programs, gets veterans on the water to provide physical, mental and emotional therapy for injuries and illnesses.

The company said sailing provides an outlet to cope with the long-term effects of PTSD, brain injury, amputation, paralysis and nerve damage. It also provides the warrior sailors a forum to express their most natural abilities: teamwork and competitive drive.

“Be professional, have fun and give back are values that Hood is proud to share with the Warrior Sailing Program,” Hood Sailmakers COO Dave MacMillan said in a statement.

“Warrior Sailing’s dedication to give back to men and women who have sacrificed so much on our behalf is commendable. The commitment made by Warrior Sailing to engage service members in an unmatched maritime education provides tremendous value to our sport and industry. Hood is honored to support Warrior Sailing and we invite you to join us.”

“We are excited about this partnership with Hood Sailmakers to help us achieve our mission,” Warrior Sailing Program co-founder Jen French said. “This is another great example of how the sailing community can work together to expand the sport of sailing to disabled veterans who have served us.”
