News Splash! The All New Hylas H60 Making Waves in the US

BY Kevin Wensley - 0 COMMENTS

The Hylas H60 project has been underway for close to 2 years. We asked German Frers and his team what they thought a high-end, semi custom sailing yacht would look like in the 2020s. We’ve turned his 2D drawings into a 3D spectacular.

Thanks to design partners like German Frers, Bill Dixon, Doug Zurn and Dean Salthouse, Hylas is globally recognized for their timeless classics. We continue to ask our owners what they would like to see in our new developments and we never underestimate the contribution owners make to the Hylas evolution. In this instance we gave German Frers plenty of breathing room to do his thing but we also made sure there was no compromise on the features that make Hylas a global favorite.

As a builder of trans-oceanic performance cruisers we have embraced the advances in technology for hull construction. We have invested significantly in the latest engineering technology that allows us to create yachts that do justice to the designer’s vision. The “secret sauce” however will always be building a personalized yacht worthy of your own signature as far as influence and style are concerned. We have a very strong following with cruising couples that enjoy form as well as functionality. Whatever we build she has to look good and be easily managed by a shorthanded crew.

We believe in lasting relationships not only with our owners but also with industry partners that can truly add value to the Hylas ownership experience. We work closely with North Sails, Selden Masts, Harken and others. We felt that we needed an interior design partner. The award winning Hot Labs, of “superyacht” fame, seemed like a great fit. As Frers got to work on the hull design and sail plan the Hylas team in conjunction with Hot Labs started to focus on the interior. The color, textures, fabrics, lighting, cabinetry and finish all needed to complement the newer styling. Frers & Hot Labs worked their magic and the first concept renderings were presented to the boat show going public in September of 2017. Many of you will have seen these images in the sailing magazines and web based media.

Some of the features of this yacht are game changers for the Hylas brand. Twin rudders, aft helm stations, infused cored hulls, flush decks, raising and lowering swim platform, dingy garage and even an optional passarel are just part of the evolution. This kind of change from the 90’s into the next century 20’s will always bring some uncertainty from fans of the “Hylas Classics”. Rest assured there is a palpable sense of quality that exudes from the Hylas 60 as you step aboard.

In the same way that visiting the Hylas yard in Taiwan is an important part of the build experience for any new owner. Visiting the yard as a team member to see the yacht in production was exhilarating. To be able to walk the deck, get a sense of the ergonomics and absorb the lines for the yacht inside and out was simply extraordinary. There is absolutely nothing “production” about the work done at the Hylas yard. Queen Long Marine builds exclusively for Hylas. The yard and brand are owned by the same family. When you meet the carpenters, shipwrights, technicians and engineers they all take great pride in the creation of extraordinarily beautiful yachts.

We are planning the grand “unveil” of the Hylas 60 at the miami boat show. We are trying not to get ahead of our “big unveil” and presentation to the media but there’s a couple of shots on our website that should give a flavor for the Hylas 60. The interior is exceptional and Hot Labs did us proud. These shots are not renderings just quick snaps as she left the factory.

The Hylas 60 is scheduled to arrive at our Riviera Beach commissioning center in early January. We loaded her onto the the US bound freighter a week or so ago and she’s on schedule.

This will be a defining moment that team Hylas is extremely grateful for. Thanks go out to everyone that has been involved. We hope you will be able to join us in Miami for a “Club Class” tour of the yacht. We are scheduling private viewings and test sails and would encourage you to contact our sales team directly if you would like to learn more.
